Estate Care Center

The death of someone close to you is difficult, and dealing with his or her finances can feel overwhelming. If you have a part in handling an estate, we'll work with you to make it as simple and straightforward as we can.

What to do first

Know your role. A personal representative or trustee must follow the terms of the will or trust agreement. Even if that’s not your role, those materials can help to explain the responsibilities involved.

Get the death certificate. We’ll need a certified copy of the death certificate as well as the person’s full legal name and Social Security number. Why do we need this information?

Find the will and check for a trust. If probate is needed, you’ll need to ask a probate court to appoint a representative. Consider getting help from a lawyer or trusted advisor. What if there’s no will?
